High Speed Internet – Are You Getting Ripped-Off By Your Provider?

A few decades ago, the internet was not as common as it is now. In fact, the usage of the internet is rising by the day. Today, you are, perhaps, so dependent on internet that if you are told to spend a day without your internet connection, you will consider it a stiff punishment. Even your school going children may not agree to spend a day without using the internet.

As time is passing by, people are demanding high speed internet more than ever before. The service providers are also happy to capitalize on this situation as it suits them the most. While a large number of people are not quite happy with the high speed internet they have, not many bother to do anything concrete about it.

Last week I happened to meet my friend Jack in the super market. We had met for a few hours and we sat down in a restaurant to have coffee together. We had a long chat too. Jack told me how he had been ripped off on his internet bill by his provider.

After coming home, I kept pondering over our discussions that evening. I did feel that providers were indeed fleecing their customers due to the latter’s ignorance in this relatively new field.

I soon realized that when it comes to high speed internet, most of the people around, including me, are really in the dark. We mostly go by what others say. If I am not satisfied with my high speed internet, I would only complain about it. At the most, I may go by someone’s advice and subscribe to a more expensive package available with my provider. I was told that I would get better speeds in uploading and downloading content if I went to a more expensive package.

Well, I did some research three days ago and learned that things are not as difficult as they appear to be on this front. I checked my internet package to find out the download speed (in megabits per second or Mbps) for which I was paying my service provider. Next, I connected my internet and logged into a site that checks internet speeds. The website gave me the actual download speed that I was getting. The huge gap confirmed that I had also been getting ripped off by my service provider.

With A phone call and some hard talk with my provider, I am now getting a much better download speed on my high speed internet. What about you?

Choosing the Best Broadband Provider

You may want a broadband provider or may want to switch into something different. There are some things that should be considered when making the switch or selecting for the first time. There are ways in which you can secure a package that is ideal for you. You need to make a critical assessment of your requirements to end up with a provider and packages that will meet all of them and give you the best value for money.

How many will utilize the connection

When selecting, consider how many people you intend to include in using the broadband. There are packages that are ideal for individuals while others can handle a specified number of persons. Take time to read into the details of the packages to know whether it is fairly priced and if it will be able to handle all persons in your network without an overload. When too many people are using the connection, it means that they will have to work with very slow data speeds and this is never a good thing.

It is important to consider the speed of the broadband. Each broadband has its own unique speed and mostly this has to do with the provider and the equipment they are using. Depending on the tasks you need to handle, the speed is important. Some tasks require very high speeds.

Downloads and movie streaming

The number of downloads and number of movies you want to stream should determine the package that you settle for. It is irritating when you try to make a download or to stream, but you keep getting the buffering message. You should be able to download and stream movies easily, especially when you need to do it often. It is important to know that streaming and downloads can exhaust your bundles very fast. Therefore, you should settle for a package that is able to handle all the uses that you need covered.

Switching to a broadband option has been simplified largely. The whole process depends on three simple steps.

  1. You need to consider exactly how you plan to use the broadband package
  2. Usually, there is a postcode checker that can be utilized to compare the different deals that are within your area of residence or business
  3. After the determination, follow the set links to sign up for the new package.

Following the steps is straightforward and anyone can be able to follow. There are also resources available online that can aid with most of the steps that make the switching process an easy one.You should find out what your options are. It doesn’t make sense to pick a provider who does not cover your area. The package you choose depends on the place of residence. There are providers that have a wide footprint and are able to cover wide areas. However, others can only offer services in very limited places.
